There Was Never a Way Out | Swaying Smoke

With “There Was Never a Way Out,” I branched away from my normal abstract drone work. It is not a complete break, as these tracks incorporate elements of drone. However, those elements have been moved to the background. This EP introduces electronic percussion and strange melodies to the dark tone of my previous work.

Here is a new song for this week, made with Nanoloop. Like the others, you can download it for free or pay what you want.

My normal Swaying Smoke music is on hold for a bit. I finished a new album a few weeks ago and Public Spaces Lab is working on it on their end. I am working on a remix for a collaboration between artists from the Public Spaces Lab and Miga netlabels. This too is not my normal ambient, noisy drone stuff. The original is simple, but excellent electronic music. My remix will retain that feel.

Public Spaces Lab is the featured netlabel of the month on Stillstream, which I think is pretty great news!

(May 01, 2010) - A netlabel we recently discovered that has really blown us away is Public Spaces Lab, who release a diverse set of electronic, experimental, and ambient music. Not only will StillStream listeners find several familiar names there, all with outstanding releases, they will also discover several new artists and albums of striking quality. Public Spaces Lab has only been around a few short years, but already they have made a big impact, and we are excited to see where they go next. A label to watch, for certain.

On April 7, 2010 PublicSpaces Lab will be 3 years old. It will also be when we are doing our 20th release, one that we want it to be a celebration of this netlabel, of our artists but also a celebration of the future:
The future of this netlabel, the future of netaudio, the future of music.

Today we are launching a Call for Entries for PS020 “The Future Lab” . Our idea for this compilation is to have 20 original tracks from 20 different artists. We will be sending, today, a personal invitation to 10 of those artists (mainly artists that have already released with us) and we will, from today on and till March 15th, be accepting submissions for PS020 to select another 10 to be a part of this compilation.

Here is a new dark ambient track that I have been wanting to make. The only instruments I used were my Gibson SG Special and a kazoo. No virtual instruments were used. It feels good to record with real instruments again. I haven’t done so in a long time.

Update

Pure Tone did a slight bit of mastering to clean this track up. I’ve replaced the old file with the new one. He does great work. He mastered the compilation release from Public Spaces Lab.
